Simultaneous inference in general parametric models.

چکیده
Simultaneous inference is a common problem in many areas of application. If multiple null hypotheses are tested simultaneously, the probability of rejecting erroneously at least one of them increases beyond the pre-specified significance level. Simultaneous inference procedures have to be used which adjust for multiplicity and thus control the overall type I error rate. In this paper we describe simultaneous inference procedures in general parametric models, where the experimental questions are specified through a linear combination of elemental model parameters. The framework described here is quite general and extends the canonical theory of multiple comparison procedures in ANOVA models to linear regression problems, generalized linear models, linear mixed effects models, the Cox model, robust linear models, etc. Several examples using a variety of different statistical models illustrate the breadth of the results. For the analyses we use the R add-on package multcomp, which provides a convenient interface to the general approach adopted here.

Exact Statistical Inference for Some Parametric Nonhomogeneous Poisson Processes
Nonhomogeneous Poisson processes (NHPPs) are often used to model recurrent events, and there is thus a need to check model fit for such models. We study the problem of obtaining exact goodness-of-fit tests for certain parametric NHPPs, using a method based on Monte Carlo simulation conditional on sufficient statistics. A closely related way of obtaining exact confidence intervals in parametri...
متن کاملSimultaneous Inference of Partially Linear Error-in-Covariate Models: an Application to the U.S. Gasoline Demand∗
In this paper, we conduct simultaneous inference of the non-parametric multivariate function of a partially linear model when the covariate terms in both parametric and non-parametric parts are subject to the Berkson measurement errors. Based on semiparametric estimates of the model, we construct a simultaneous confidence region of the multivariate function for simultaneous inference. The devel...
متن کاملNon-parametric Bayesian simultaneous dimension reduction and regression on manifolds
We formulate a Bayesian non-parametric model for simultaneous dimension reduction and regression as well as inference of graphical models. The proposed model holds for both the classical setting of Euclidean subspaces and the Riemannian setting where the marginal distribution is concentrated on a manifold. The method is designed for the high-dimensional setting where the number of variables far...
متن کاملSimultaneous inference of linear models with time varying coefficients
The paper considers construction of simultaneous confidence tubes for time varying regression coefficients in functional linear models. Using a Gaussian approximation result for non-stationary multiple time series, we show that the constructed simultaneous confidence tubes have asymptotically correct nominal coverage probabilities. Our results are applied to the problem of testing whether the r...
متن کاملLocal and Global Asymptotic Inference in Smoothing Spline Models
This article studies local and global inference for smoothing spline estimation in a unified asymptotic framework. We first introduce a new technical tool called functional Bahadur representation, which significantly generalizes the traditional Bahadur representation in parametric models, that is, Bahadur [Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 37 (1966) 577–580]. Equipped with this tool, we develop four in...
